Best SEOmatic alternatives for programmatic SEO

Finding the right content marketing tool can be pretty painful. Maybe you're already a current SEOmatic customer. Maybe you've been considering using them to generate programmatic SEO content to scale your online business.

Either way, I've been building programmatic SEO websites that get traffic and that convert into sales since before the term "programmatic SEO" existed. I've used, or researched in detail, all of the tools on the market, including SEOmatic and its alternatives.

But before I jump into the SEOmatic alternatives, let's review SEOmatic itself to help you understand what it does and who it's for.

What is SEOmatic?

SEOmatic helps you build and manage large-scale content for lead generation, automating and scaling web pages for SEO and PPC strategies on any CMS platform, increasing your traffic, leads, and sales effortlessly.

SEOmatic structures its pricing into three comprehensive tiers designed for different business needs: Basic at $41/month (billed annually) for individual website owners, Premium at $124/month for growing startups, and Agency at $249/month for multi-client management. I find the Basic plan's 50,000 monthly AI-generated words and 500-page publishing limit sufficient for most small businesses, while the Premium tier ups the ante to 150,000 words and 5,000 pages, perfect for scaling operations.

What's particularly appealing is that all plans include core features like unlimited projects, CMS publishing options, and advanced analytics, with Premium and Agency tiers adding team collaboration capabilities for 3-5 team members. If you prefer more payment flexibility, monthly billing is available at higher rates ($49, $149, and $299 respectively), and you'll get a 7-day free trial to thoroughly test the platform before committing.

Why you might be looking for a SEOmatic alternative

The very fact you're reading this page probably means you have some concerns about whether SEOmatic is for you, and wanting to make sure none of the alternatives are a better option.

You might want to look at an alternative to SEOmatic if:

1. The pricing model doesn't align with your budget needs

SEOmatic only offers subscription-based pricing with no option for one-time licenses or pay-as-you-go plans. If you're looking for more flexible payment options or prefer a single purchase solution, you might find the recurring subscription model restrictive. While there is a 7-day free trial available, the lack of alternative pricing structures could be a dealbreaker for some users.

2. You need more comprehensive email support

Despite offering live chat, phone/video support, and a ticketing system, SEOmatic doesn't provide direct email assistance. This could be frustrating if you prefer email communication for documenting and tracking your support interactions. Having to rely solely on their existing support channels might not suit your workflow or communication preferences.

3. You require broader data import capabilities

While SEOmatic supports CSV imports, it lacks integration with popular data management tools like Airtable, Google Sheets, and Notion. If your workflow heavily depends on these platforms, you'll need to spend extra time converting your data to CSV format. This limitation could significantly impact your productivity and complicate your content management process.

4. You need automated search engine indexing

SEOmatic requires manual indexing of your pages, which can be time-consuming when dealing with large-scale content generation. If you're managing hundreds or thousands of pages, the absence of automatic indexing capabilities could create a significant bottleneck in your SEO workflow. This manual process might not be sustainable for your content publishing strategy.

5. You're using Ghost as your CMS platform

While SEOmatic supports numerous content management systems including WordPress, Webflow, Shopify, and others, it's not compatible with Ghost. If you're running your website on Ghost and don't want to migrate to a different platform, you'll need to look for an alternative solution that integrates with your existing CMS.

Finding the programmatic SEO tool that works for you

Okay so we started off looking at the reasons why you might not want to use SEOmatic for your content marketing. But what do you actually want from your tool?

A lot of factors will go into this. If you have a custom CMS and a dev team (or you're a dev yourself) your needs are going to be vastly different to a solopreneur who uses WordPress, doesn't know how to code, and can't afford a developer.

It's really hard to pinpoint exactly what you'd need in an alternative to SEOmatic but I'll cover some of the common ones that you can use to figure it out yourself.

  • A seamless fit with your existing website setup
  • I've seen too many marketers waste thousands of dollars on tools that claim to work with their setup but end up requiring costly developers to integrate. You need something that plugs right into your current CMS and marketing stack without a massive overhaul of your systems.

When your programmatic SEO tool works natively with your setup, you'll save countless hours and headaches trying to make things work together. Plus, you won't be locked into a specific platform or need to rebuild your site from scratch.

  • The power to create unique, data-driven content at scale
  • Let's face it - manually creating hundreds or thousands of pages is soul-crushing work that takes forever. You need a tool that can take your data sources and automatically generate unique, valuable content that actually serves your audience's needs.

The right tool will let you combine AI with your own data to create content that's both scalable and highly specific to each search intent. This means higher rankings and better conversion rates across your entire site.

  • Flexible content control that adapts to your needs
  • Your content needs will evolve as your business grows. That's why you need a tool that gives you granular control over how your content is structured and published. From conditional logic to custom templates, you should be able to adapt your content strategy without hitting technical roadblocks.

When you have this level of control, you can test different approaches and optimize your pages based on what actually works, not what the tool limits you to.

  • Built-in collaboration features that scale with your team
  • If you're working with a team (or planning to), you need more than just a content generation tool. You need a system that lets multiple people work together efficiently without stepping on each other's toes.

The right collaboration features mean your content creation process stays organized as you scale, whether you're working with in-house teams or external contractors.

  • Performance tracking that shows real results
  • All the content in the world means nothing if you can't track its performance. You need clear analytics that show you exactly how your pages are performing and where to focus your optimization efforts.

When you can see what's working and what isn't, you can make data-driven decisions about your content strategy instead of just hoping for the best.

  • Choose Create Pages as your SEOmatic alternative

I know, I know. Create Pages is my tool, so I am a little biased towards it. But for good reason:

    1. I am one of the most well known programmatic SEO experts in the industry
    2. I am building Create Pages based on what I know works
    3. The output from Create Pages is better than I have seen from other pSEO tools

In this list of alternatives I have been 100% fair and everything is based on real-world data collected on each of the tools, their features, the target audience, etc to make sure you have all of the information to make a decision.

I think Create Pages is a strong choice for most businesses, but you should now have much more of an idea what you really need from a content tool and if another product works better for you, that's great!

If you do try Create Pages please let me know. We're very open to feedback and ship new features at lightning pace.
