Why do I get different results when calculating increases vs decreases?
A 50% increase followed by a 50% decrease doesn't get you back to the original number. This happens because each percentage works on a different base number.
How do I calculate year-over-year growth?
Subtract last year's number from this year's, divide by last year's number, then multiply by 100. For example, if traffic grew from 10,000 to 13,000 visitors, that's a 30% increase.
What's a good conversion rate increase?
It varies by industry, but any positive percentage change is good. A 0.5 percentage point improvement (like 2% to 2.5%) can mean significant revenue for high-traffic sites.
How do I track percentage improvements in rankings?
Calculate the percentage of keywords in different positions. If 40 out of 100 keywords are in the top 10 one month, and 50 the next month, that's a 25% improvement.
Can percentages be more than 100%?
Yes. Percentages over 100% mean something is more than the original amount. For example, if your traffic doubles, that's a 100% increase.
How do I convert a decimal to a percentage?
Multiply by 100. For example:
